Understanding the Turkish Conditional e-Visa


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye provides an electronic visa (evisa.gov.tr) for certain nationalities, including Pakistan, India, the Philippines, and several other countries, strictly under specific conditional prerequisites.

A widespread mistake among travelers is applying for a Turkish eVisa without possessing a qualifying supporting visa. When arriving at Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), travelers without valid supporting documents face immediate denied entry and deportation.

What Qualifies as an Eligible Supporting Document?

To qualify for a 30-day Turkish tourist eVisa, you MUST hold:
  • An active, valid physical visa issued by one of the following:
  • Any Schengen Area member country (e.g., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands)
  • United States of America
  • United Kingdom
  • Ireland
  • OR an active residence permit from one of the above jurisdictions.

    • What Does NOT Qualify (Common Rejection Reasons):

  • E-Visas of Other Countries: An eVisa from another country (e.g. UAE eVisa, Saudi eVisa, Qatar Hayya card, or UK electronic transit) is NOT accepted as a supporting document by Turkish border police. It must be a physical sticker visa or official biometric residence card.
  • Expired Visas: Your supporting Schengen, US, or UK visa must be valid on the exact date you enter Turkey.
  • Used Single-Entry Schengen Visas: If your Schengen visa was single-entry and you have already exited the Schengen zone, Turkish border authorities may reject it as invalid because you no longer hold active entry permission into that territory.

  • Portal: `evisa.gov.tr` (Official MOFA Turkey).
  • Official Fee: Approximately $60 USD depending on nationality.
  • Stay Allowed: Up to 30 days.
  • Validity: 180 days from the date of issue (Single Entry).
  • Travel Requirement: Must travel with an airline that holds agreements with the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (e.g., Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines).

    • If you do NOT hold a qualifying supporting document, you must apply for a standard sticker visa through the designated Turkish Visa Application Center (Anatolia Travel Services / Gateway Globe) in your home country.
